The Caisson Drilling Contractor Canada Relies On

Using specialty equipment and large diameter down hole hammers we are capable of boring large diameter holes which can be filled with steel reinforced concrete to distribute building loads to a competent load bearing material below the surface.

Typically caissons are used when shallower foundations such as strip footings or spread footings cannot be constructed economically or safely due to poor soil conditions. Caisson foundations can be constructed to transfer compressive loads to competent bedrock or soils. Additional capacity can be achieved in both compression and tension by creating sockets in the bedrock.

Our Process

At Brewster Well Drilling we use dual rotary drills and advance steel casing is used to hold back lose material or caving soils when the water table is higher than the design depth or when soils with low cohesion are encountered. This casing can be removed after the concrete is placed or left in place depending on site conditions and design requirements.

Concrete is typically pumped in place using a 4” tremmie pipe to avoid segregation of concrete materials which could occur if the concrete is allowed to free-fall. Additionally if water is present in the caisson it is necessary to pump concrete from the bottom to displace the water and ensure the water cement ratio of the concrete is not adversely affected.
